Devon, who is majoring in biological sciences and psychology and is part of the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program, aspires to one day become a physician. While at Rutgers he has been getting involved in research as a research assistant in the Rutgers social psychology department, and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Molecular Biology and Biochemistry department, through the summer program at New Jersey Medical School and through a summer fellowship at Columbia Irving Medical Center. He is a member of a number of student organizations at Rutgers including the Premedical Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Psychology Honor Society, Aresty, SASHP Peer Mentor, SASHP One-on-One Tutor, and ODASIS. Devon says that "Navigating college can be stressful to begin with, and being the first in your family to do so is especially challenging. Filing for FASFA? Registering for classes? Declaring a major? Knowing how to do those things isn’t innate, thus having a community and resources to help has been invaluable to me these past 4 years. My piece of advice would be reach out to professors, apply for scholarships, and spend your summers doing something that will advance you in your future career. Also have fun, and put yourself out of your comfort zone!"
